Northern Nevada Chapter (Reno) 2007 Hero of the Year, Jencie Fagan, was honored with one of three first-ever Congressional Medal of Honor for Civilians in a ceremony at Arlington Cemetery in Washington D.C. Fagan was honored for talking a 14-year-old student into putting a gun down after he had fired the gun three times in the cafeteria. As soon as he slid the gun away, Fagan ran over and hugged him. Fagan has also received the prestigious Carnegie Medal of Heroism, given to those who risk their lives to an extraordinary degree while saving or attempting to save the lives of others.
